Shoshanah Albrecht was born in Chicago in 1984. After moving to England at the age of eleven, she began devoting herself entirely to music, creative writing and the dramatics. In 2007, Shoshanah graduated from Lincoln University with a first class honors Degree in English Literature, and continued to complete her MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa. Shoshanah has written several short stories, winning the Nigel Winn Memorial Prize in 2007 for her novelette The Tangible Escape of Fran Sans Lumière. The extract here comes from her untitled novel, a work of realist fantasy fiction. It tells the story of Annette, a young girl growing up in the confines of a London boarding house. Following the death of her repressive father, Annette is thrown into a world of surreal and sinister proportions, where perspectives change and things take on a life of their own. The novel is intended as a study of dimensions between the real and the imaginary, and is Shoshanah’s first novel to date. Shoshanah now lives in Brighton where she can see the sea.
